FEELSCAPE

FEELSCAPE Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-10-02

EV7Lab (“we”) respects the privacy of people who use the FEELSCAPE app (“the app”). This policy explains what information the app handles and how.

1. Information we collect

We run no servers and do not collect your personal information. The information below is created by the app and stored only on your device. What the Google services built into the app (ads, notices and so on) handle is described in section 2.

  • Measurement results: loudness (dB), brightness (lux), number of nearby Bluetooth devices, air pressure, magnetic field strength, and the number and strength of nearby Wi-Fi and cellular signals, vibration, and temperature/humidity (on phones with those sensors)
  • Space exploration records: traces for the space view and sound terrain of a result (heading, magnetic field direction, sound level per frequency band every 0.25 s, Bluetooth signal strength numbers), room echo results (reverberation time and clarity), the relative path of a walk from its starting point with the noise, light and magnetic field along it, and the size of air pressure jumps that came with noise log sounds. No audio and no device names are stored.
  • Place names you type in
  • App settings (daily rhythm, theme, microphone calibration and so on)
  • Sleep mode records: loudness (dB), brightness (lux) and movement measured every minute during the night, plus the sound type (snoring, coughing and so on) estimated by on-device AI
  • Noise log records: the time, loudness (dB) and floor vibration of each sudden sound, the sound type estimated by on-device AI, and per-minute noise summaries
  • Place fingerprints for auto place recognition: nearby Wi-Fi device IDs (BSSIDs) mixed with a secret unique to your device and turned into codes that cannot be reversed. The original IDs and Wi-Fi names are not stored.
  • How a space felt to you (comfortable, okay, tiring), if you choose to leave it after a measurement
  • Air pressure log: pressure measured every 15 minutes to follow the weather trend. Deleted automatically after 2 days.

2. Permissions and why we use them

  • Microphone: used to calculate loudness (dB) and, in measurements, sleep mode and the noise log, to estimate the type of sound (footsteps, snoring, etc.) with an AI model (YAMNet·EfficientAT) that runs only on this device. Sound is never recorded or stored; the audio is discarded right after the calculation. Only the numbers and the sound type names are kept. For room echo, the phone speaker plays a test sound of about 1.5 seconds twice, and the returning echo is analysed on this device and discarded right away.
  • Location: used to see nearby Wi-Fi (required by Android), to rule out far-away places in auto place recognition, and for the measurement map. Place recognition uses only an irreversible code for a roughly 200 m area mixed with a secret unique to your device. With the measurement map on (default; you can turn it off or delete locations in Settings), the coordinates and accuracy radius of each measurement are stored with that record on the device only. When you open the map, map images (tiles) are downloaded from OpenFreeMap (OpenStreetMap data); like any online map, this sends the tile addresses of the area on screen and your IP address to that server. With the map on, one GNSS (GPS) fix is taken during each measurement, and the altitude calculated from the barometer and GNSS is stored with that record on the device only. For altitude calibration, the latest sea-level pressure value (one number and its time) is kept on the device. Coordinates, altitude, measurements and records themselves are never sent anywhere. Only when you tap “Show address” in a measurement’s details are its coordinates sent to your device’s address service (Android Geocoder, provided by Google) to look up the address; the address is not saved.
  • Nearby devices (Bluetooth): used to estimate how crowded a space is from the number of nearby devices. Device names and addresses are not stored. In the turn-around scan, each device’s signal strength and the phone’s heading are used to estimate its direction; the result and device names are only shown on screen and not stored.
  • Wi-Fi state: used to check the number and strength of nearby Wi-Fi signals. Wi-Fi names are shown on screen right after a measurement and never stored.
  • Light, pressure, magnetic and proximity sensors: read without any special permission to calculate the index. The space view uses the magnetometer to match real directions, and during the noise log sudden air pressure changes are used to tell doors in your own home apart; only the size of the change is stored.
  • Notifications: Android requires a visible notification for sleep mode to keep recording while the screen is off. We never send advertising or promotional notifications. App notices (new features and updates) are delivered with Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google), which issues a device token for delivery. Readings, history and location are never sent.
  • Ads: we show ads through Google AdMob. For this, Google may process your advertising ID, device information and IP address; in regions that require it (such as Europe) we ask for your consent first. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings. Readings, history and places are never used for ads or sent.
  • AI wording (optional, off by default): when turned on in Settings, supported devices use Google ML Kit’s Gemini Nano to reword the result explanation on the device. Measurements and explanations are not sent, but ML Kit sends device information (maker, model, OS version), the app version and feature usage statistics to Google. On first use the system (AICore) may download the Gemini Nano model.
  • Activity recognition (step detection): used to leave sound measured while walking out of the noise calculation, and to draw the relative path from the starting point in Walk and map. Walk records (relative path and step count) stay on this device, and satellite location (GPS) is not used.
  • All permissions are optional. You can use the rest of the app without granting them.

3. Retention and deletion

Measurement records stay only on your device until you delete them in the app or uninstall the app. You can delete one record, selected records, or all records in the History screen. Deleted records cannot be recovered.

4. Sharing with third parties

We do not share your personal information with third parties or outsource its processing. When you use the share feature, only the result image and text are passed to the app you choose. However, the Google services built into the app (AdMob, Firebase Cloud Messaging, ML Kit and the address lookup) process the information described in section 2 directly, under Google’s privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy).

5. Your rights

You can delete records in the app at any time, withdraw permissions in Android settings, or uninstall the app to erase all of its data.

6. Children

We do not collect personal information from anyone, including children. What the Google services built into the app handle is described in section 2.

7. Changes to this policy

If we add features that use the internet, such as sharing records, we will update this policy and let you know in the app and on this page before the changes take effect.

8. Contact

For questions about privacy, please contact us below. If you email us a question or a problem report, we use your email address and the message (for a problem report, the app version, device information and error logs) only to reply and fix the problem, and delete it once resolved.
